Netherlands at a glance
- Online spending: Dutch consumers spent €35.7 billion online in 2025, a slight 1% decline, the first such dip in years, driven entirely by falling services spending (travel, events, ticketing), while product spending actually grew for the first time since the pandemic, up 2% for the full year across 347 million purchases (Thuiswinkel Markt Monitor, NielsenIQ/GfK). This nuance matters more than the headline: the market isn't shrinking for physical goods sellers, it's the events and travel categories dragging the total down.
- Q4 2025 snapshot: €10.83B online spend across 95.6 million purchases; smartphone reached parity with desktop/laptop for the first time at 43% of purchases each; cross-border spending kept climbing to €4.5B and 45 million purchases, with Germany (+57%), China (+49%) and Belgium (+44%) the fastest-growing source countries.
- Marketplace/traffic context: bol.com leads, followed by Marktplaats and Amazon.nl among NL marketplace sites (traffic ranking).
The top marketplaces in the Netherlands (2026)
1) bol.com
The Benelux champion and the country's most-visited marketplace. For full-year 2025, trade volume across bol's platform grew to €6.3 billion, up from €5.9 billion in 2024, with cross-border partner revenue doubling in Q4 alone as bol pushes harder to attract sellers from outside the Netherlands (Twinkle Magazine, via Ahold Delhaize FY2025 results). Ahold Delhaize's combined European online trade volume, which also includes Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall&Gall alongside bol, reached over €8.7 billion for the year. Note that Ahold Delhaize no longer breaks out bol's net revenue as a standalone figure in every release, only trade volume, so treat any net-revenue number you see elsewhere with a bit of caution.
- Suits: broad consumer catalogue (Home & Living, Electronics, Toys, Books, FMCG).
- Notes: strict content/CE compliance and delivery SLAs; NL/BE business registration required for seller accounts.

4) Blokker Connect

- Suits: Home & Household, Small Appliances, Cleaning, Seasonal.
- Notes: curated categories and branded expectations; API integrations available.
5) Zalando (Partner Program)
Leading European fashion platform active in the Netherlands via the Partner Program. Following the July 2025 close of its ABOUT YOU acquisition, Zalando's group-wide active customers reached a new high of 62 million across 29 markets in FY2025, with group revenue up 16.8% to €12.3 billion and GMV up 14.7% to €17.6 billion (Zalando FY2025 results).

Group-wide, Vinted's GMV grew 47% to €10.8 billion in FY2025, with revenue up 38% to €1.1 billion, though profitability dipped slightly as the group reinvested in expansion, worth knowing but not a reason to avoid the channel (Vinted FY2025 results). Logistics partnership with InPost covers NL among other markets.
